Local Charity Resources

One of our greatest differentiators in our line of work is the robust network of charities we utilize.  We confidently claim to donate at a greater rate than any other junk removal company in the Washington DC area.

Often, though, we caution our clients that we’re at the mercy of the charities, the same as anyone else.  Our ability to donate is directly related to the quality and amount of items our partner charities have in stock. Fortunately, we have lots of charity partners.

One of the ways you can get a feel for how charities evaluate an items worthiness of pickup, is to literally have them come out to your house for a pickup.  Not all of the charities listed below offer free pickups, but some of them do.  As a rule of thumb, a charity will remove items from garages, carports, and other places outside the home, but they will not go into the home and carry items out.  Charity pickups almost invariably require you to place items outside yourself so the charity doesn’t have to concern itself with any liability for potential damages to your home.

Below is a list of local charities that 123JUNK works with:

Habitat for Humanity

  • Furniture, Tools, Appliances, TVs, Building Materials.

 Goodwill Salvation Army

  • Household goods, Electronics, Dishes, All kinds of stuff.

 Good Shepherd Alliance (Loudoun County)

  • Leesburg and Ashburn Locations, including a thrift shop in Sterling at Regal Plaza.
  • Similar to Goodwill in terms of donation items accepted.

A Wider Circle (Primarily DC and MD. One of the few charities that will accept mattresses.)

  • Since they are not taking items for resale, A Wider Circle tends to be more lenient regarding donations.  Items must be in “dignity condition.”  Household cleaners and other odds and ends are often good items for them, too.

 Pender Thrift ReGift

  • Donations go to their thrift store, and they can provide donation receipts just like the other charities on our list.

 Other Local Faith-Based Charities

If you can’t organize a local pickup with one of the charities listed above, or if you strongly prefer that your items go to benefit the most immediately local folks who are in need, you might have success contacting local churches.  Most of the charities we work with are, at their cores, faith-based.  Churches, schools, and libraries are all good places to contact to see if they might have a need for some of your gently used items.
