There are many ways to approach a remodel and rediscover a space in your house, like a basement, attic, or garage. One of which is to simply clear the area completely, donate items and start from scratch. This way you can see exactly what you are working with. Most people that have a basement or garage haven’t seen it without everything in it since they moved in.
You will be pleasantly surprised by the space that your junk is taking up! Once you clear the space you can decide what you want to keep or throw away. This task can be very daunting and a burden on the process as a whole, but it must be done! A great technique is to group items into furniture, clothing, old appliances, etc. This way you will easily be able to call and get the excess things removed and out of your way- grouping is key! Another best practice is to take inventory of everything, especially if you are scared that you will lose track or recycle something that you actually wanted to keep. This will also help when you are getting your things removed from your home, you will be able to tell the movers exactly what to take.
Separating and cleaning out a space is a chore, but the end results are always rewarding and worth your time. Just think, you only have to organize and group things, we do the rest! What are you going to do with your new open space?
